Ruffa Gutierrez defends mom Annabelle Rama

Ruffa Gutierrez defends mom Annabelle Rama

The rift between Annabelle Rama and GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Wilma Galvante—caused by the “lack of support” from Richard Gutierrez’s home network for his movie For The First Time—has shaken the showbiz world these past two weeks. The two women have been exchanging barbs over the issue, with Annabelle saying that the network went so far as “sabotaging” the movie’s opening by staging a free concert on the same day. For her part, Galvante says that the channel is not afraid of Annabelle and that no such sabotage took place.

Annabelle’s daughter Ruffa Gutierrez, however, remained unperturbed with such intrigues, believing that the two will reach an impasse sooner or later. “Well, alam naman po ninyo sa showbiz, wala naman talagang permanent kaaway, wala naman talagang permanent kaibigan. Kumbaga, kung magkaaway kayo today, bukas magakakabati din kayo,” she diplomatically said during the Metrowear Gala Randy Ortiz fashion show at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel last September 4.

The actress also defended her mom, saying her mom wouldn’t have ranted at the network executive without a reason. “She's my ninang (referring to Galvante) sa wedding namin ni Ylmaz (Bektas). Alam ko magkakasundo kayo ni mommy and siyempre marami ding narinig ang mommy ko na sinabi niyo or tinext niyo na nagreact naman siya,” she conveyed to Galvante through the press present in the event. This was in reference to the Galvante’s claim that GMA wasn’t out to sabotage the opening day of For The First Time when they staged the Dingdong Dantes-Marian Rivera birthday concert at the Big Dome last August 27 and that she did not send threatening text messages to Annabelle.

Ang sinabi ko naman kay mommy nun, ‘wag na siya’ng magreact kasi ganon naman talaga ang showbiz eh. The more na magreact ka, the more na lalaki ang gulo. So for me I think my mom has to practice the art of being dedma. O ‘di ba? The art of silence. My mom kasi is the type na if she hears something, she reacts right away. Especially kapag anak niya [ang pinaguusapan]. Sa mga tumitira naman kay mommy, sanayou’ll get to know her better because she’s really a nice person. Kapag nakakanti lang talaga ang mga anak niya, that’s when she becomes a monster,” she exclaimed.

Despite all the controversies though, Ruffa was grateful because her brother’s first movie under Star Cinema became a certified blockbuster. “Sa lahat ng mga pinagdaanan nila KC (Concepcion) and ni Richard throughout the movie, sa mga stress, mga behind the scenes na hindi alam ng publiko—masasabi ko na lahat ng pagod nila sulit talaga kasi tinangkilik. And alam ni’yo naman dito sa industriyang ‘to, at the end of the day, kung box office ka sa pelikula, that’s the time na masasabi mong you’ve arrived. So nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng tumangkilik sa movie nila KC and ni Chard. And of course my mom will not say anything more kasi tapos na,” Ruffa concluded.
