John Lloyd proves he’s indeed the reigning Box-Office King
John Lloyd Cruz was crowned 2007 Box-Office King and his leading lady Bea Alonzo as Box-Office Queen, when their movie turned in the biggest box-office earning last year. And now, because of the unprecedented box-office success of his movie team-up with Sarah Geronimo "A Very Special Love," which has so far grossed a whopping P200-million, John Lloyd stands the big chance to win the crown once more from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation’s 2008 Entertainment Awards.
John Lloyd is only in his early 20s but already he has achieved a lot. In fact, it can be said he is now overloaded with success. In a span of 10 years, Lloydie (his nickname among friends and colleagues) who started his showbiz career as a teen actor in the hit TV shows "Gimik" and "Tabing-Ilog," has earned accolades from both critics and fans. He may also be loaded with work but for him every project is a gift to be treasured.
He said "everytime I realize I have the time to be here, working or being with people I love, entertaining audiences…to just be doing what I love doing, I feel very blessed." His blessings this year was capped by the success of "A Very Special Love," which could be 2008’s biggest money earner. And to think that at first, movie observers were skeptical; after all, the movie did not pair Lloydie with his love team mate Bea Alonzo. Their projects together have always been big hits. But Lloydie has proven that with or without Bea, he too can make it, especially if he teams up with other bankable stars like Sarah Geronimo.
(Anyway, John Lloyd and Bea are working together again, this time in the soap opera "I Love Betty La Fea" which airs soon on ABS-CBN.)
John Lloyd has truly become a bankable name in the industry, with TV shows, films and endorsement deals left and right. Right after the hit TV soap "Maging Sino Ka Man," he went straight to the US for the very successful Heartthrobs concert tour with Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby.
To top it off, John Lloyd is also the face of the new Greenwich Overloaded Pizzas — the latest pizza innovations from the Philippines’ No. 1 pizza which boasts of overflowing servings of different kinds of toppings that make their pizzas even more delicious and mouth-watering.
John Lloyd works hard, and he admits that he can play hard, too. "It helps keep me sane and grounded," he says.
For the actor, relationships are very important. On his free days, usually Sundays or when shootings or tapings are cancelled, he enjoys the company of friends. Shopping, watching movies, or just staying at home and watching DVDs become opportunities to unwind as he gets to share his favorite food with his barkada.
A certified foodie, John Lloyd even shared some Greenwich products to his fellow "Maging Sino Ka Man" cast members and crew during the show’s last shooting days. More recently, he also treated his " A Very Special Love" cast members and crew to a Greenwich blow-out. His relationship with the brand, however, is about more than just food and publicity. When he was still in "Tabing-Ilog" from 1999 to 2003, the company was already tapping him to entertain crowds at store openings across the country.
