Ryan Agoncillo to host "Pinoy Fear Factor," trains for his role in "Pieta"

"Ah, well, paano nga ba? Philippine Idol is my baby. I gave my best to that show. Kami nina Direk Rich Ilustre, ni Direk Mark Reyes, nina Mr. C [Ryan Cayabyab] who's in PDA [Pinoy Dream Academy] now.

"It's not right for us to comment on how people take Pinoy Idol now. Siguro the most I can say is that, uh...the same respect the people gave us when we were doing our version of Philippine Idol,Pinoy Idol now. Siguro hindi tamang mag-comment ako. I'll keep my thoughts to myself. I will give the creators of

IT WAS NOT OFFERED.

"No, it was never... I don't think it was ever an option. That's why I was the last one to find out that GMA is doing Pinoy Idol. Kasi alam ko yun...I don't know where we were. I think, if I'm not mistaken in one of our trips last year na pagbalik ko rito, ang nagsabi sa akin na hindi na hawak ng ABC-5 ang Pinoy Idol was Percy [Intalan, ABC-5 creative head].

"Then, he was the one who told me na definitely, well...we don't have the season 2. And then when I talked to Miss Annette Gozon-Abrogar [GMA-7's VP for Program Management] last year, it was really never in the table na ang Philippine Idol, their version, was gonna be for me. Never napag-usapan. That's why na-open up yung possibility of me hosting Pinoy Dream Academy."

"Ah, ako, nung time na ‘yon? Of course, why not? Kasi kunyari Pinoy Idol was offered to me a long time ago?

"Alam ni Tita Cory [Vidanes, ABS-CBN Head for TV Production] ‘yon."

FROM PHIL. IDOL TO PDA TO PINOY FEAR FACTOR.

For some vague reasons.

"I was very vocal na hindi ako bitter.

Kaya ba naisip niyang mag-propose?

"Hindi yun. It gave me time to spend with Judy Ann [Santos]. It gave me time to finish my book, ‘di ba? It give me time to plan my proposal. So, everything was falling into place for me. So, thankful ako."

SCREWING UP THE AUDITIONS.

The moment I got home from the States nung gabing ‘yon na nabigay yun, natuwa ako. I was just really looking forward to coming back."

Bakit ganun ang naging attitude niya?

"Because I knew I screwed up the audition. I wasn't able to give my best in the audition."

Sinu-sino ang nakita niya na iba pa na nag-audition for the show?

"Hindi ko alam kung sino. Wala akong nakasabay. But you have to think my ten years of hosting dito sa Pilipinas, the people from Endemol [owners of Fear Factor and Academy franchise] really don't give a damn about it. They just want to see you. Wala, e, Same thing with Philippine Idol."

"Oh, yeah, definitely. To be honest, I was resigned about Fear Factor. Alam ko ang uuwian ko na lang dito sa Pilipinas that time was that show from ABC-5 and my show Pieta. Yun ang pinaghahandaan ko, e. Sinuwerte lang talaga.

"'Yung Pieta nga very apologetic ako kina Enrico Santos. We were supposed to do August and ah...dumating yung Fear Factor. Thankful ako na they're open to moving the taping to September. That was a bit of a concern, but...I mean, I'm thankful that Enrico pushed the taping schedule back."

PREPARING FOR PIETA. Pieta is a remake of the Ace Vergel movie in the ‘80s from Carlo Caparas's komiks novel. Handa na rin bang mag-aksyon si Ryan?

"Yeah, well, you know it's interesting to watch na ang action stars ngayon sa U.S. hindi na sina Arnold Schwarzenegger at Sylvester Stallone. It's the revenge of the nerds. He-he-he.

"So, you know these guys [actors with "nerd" image] can play sensitive roles, which I've also done. They were never macho but they were given a shot at macho Hollywood summer movies. That's a worldwide trend and I think that‘s the kind of trend also surfacing in the Philippines.

"Kaya nagpapasalamat ako na sina Enrico, they are willing to take that risk. Somebody who didn't have the macho image as long as the role and the interpretation is right, they are willing to give a shot.

"Yeah, sa Europe araw-araw ako halos tumakbo and then even in the States, halos araw-araw din akong tumakbo. And then dito yung execise regimen ko, almost every day.

"Nakakatuwa nga, e. Dahil ‘di ba usually kapag bakasyon, bumibigat. Pag-uwi ko from Europe and from the States, gumaan ako. So, nagwo-work naman yung exercise."

Ha-ha-ha!"

WHAT IS IT ABOUT RYAN?

Ha-ha-ha!

"O, sige na. Well, they told me they like my maturity level sa hosting. Kasi nung naisip ko nga, ‘Oo nga pala, ‘no? Ten years na nga pala akong nagho-host.' I'm not a host anymore. Marami na akong pinagdaanang trials sa iba-ibang shows."

Si Ryan daw kasi ang tipo ng host na hindi na kailangang sundan point by point ang script niya for the show.

"Ah, no, no, no. The opposite of it. If you feel like the host doesn't need a script anymore it only means the writer is doing a very good job. Kasi ako I always credit it sa mga writers ko na if I'm working with a good writer, then I'm a very good host. Otherwise, it's really gonna be a tough time. Kasi like ako, experience ko with some of the really good writers that I've worked with, they're able to second how I'm gonna speak. I don't have to adapt to their speaking style, It's the writer really who sees kung paano ako nagsasalita. So, lilinawin na nila yung thoughts.

"I'm realy more scared about the psychological impact that will happen. Mag-isa ako sa Argentina [where Pinoy Fear Factor will be shot]. Although, kasama ko sina Direk Lauren [Dyogi]. It's gonna be a boys club kasi isang buwan mahigit, e."

Mami-miss niya si Juday?

"Ah, siyempre.

"Dahil sa layo ng South America, even if she takes a leave for a week, that will take her two days to go and two days to comeback. So, she only has solid three days, oh, two and half pa nga, depende kung ano. So, hindi siguro," tapos ni Ryan.
