Ruffa Gutierrez on her mom’s constant controversies: ‘Si mommy hindi nagiisip minsan’

By Manila P. Santos

Even before she announced her dissatisfaction about son Richard Gutierrez’s appearance in the July 25 Bench fashion show, ever-protective mom and manager Annabelle Rama was already infamous for her searing comments and controversial statements. But her daughter Ruffa explains that all these reactions are not totally unprovoked. So minsan lalo siyang dinadali. Sana huwag na kasi nila gawin yun. Yung mga taong walang maggawa, yun yung mga nagsusulsol dito, sulsol doon. It’s not nice eh.

When comparisons to her mom and her character in I Love Betty La Fea are brought up, Ruffa is quick to clarify that she did not use her mom as a peg for the role. Very deep ang kanyang pain at galit. At saka iba magalit si Daniella dahil hindi niya ipinapakita ang galit niya ng all out. Ako naman, sosyal naman ako magalit dito (laughs),” she relates.

Although she understands that she works for an industry that thrives on intrigues and issues, Ruffa says that she has learned to differentiate who she can or cannot trust. “In the world of show business, I grew up here and ang dami ko ng nakilalang mababit na tao. Siyempre dito ko kinukuha yung hanap buhay ko. Pero paminsan-minsan, other people, they get lost and siyempre marami ‘ring mga taong plastic. Jinu-judge ka kaagad. Yun yung mga criticisms at competition. So, importante talaga na meron kang mga kaibigan. Nagdadasal din ako at importante din sa akin na meron akong life away from showbiz. Para hindi ako talaga malunod,” Ruffa admits. The Buzz host also admits that she also has a quick temper, but she doesn’t let it affect her as much. “Ako I get mad easily pero mabilis din naman ako mag-cool down,” she adds.

With regards to her brother Richard’s first film project with Star Cinema, Ruffa also thanks ABS-CBN for treating her brother well. Contrary to the comments in the beginning na dapat hindi siya gumawa sa Star Cinema. They think negative right away. But it just goes to show that ABS-CBN proved everyone wrong. Talagang tinuturing siyang Kapamilya and he’s so happy to be working with Direk Joyce Bernal and KC Concepcion.

On the rumors that Richard has been going steady with KC for the past four months, Ruffa tries to discourage the press from probing further. I think they have some sort of special friendship. I don’t know (laughs).
