Lani home but not for long

Lani home but not for long
Lani home but not for long ...

Home is the "world-class" singer, direct from Las Vegas, but not for good, contrary to rumors spawned by the fact that her stint with the SOS (Society of Seven) at the Flamingo at The Strip has ended early this year.

Lani Misalucha flew in last Aug. 5 with her family (husband Noli and their two children, Lauven, 17, and Lian, 16) to celebrate her birthday with her loved ones and to promote her new album of 14 love songs, Reminisce (by Universal Records), recorded in Las Vegas.

"It took more than a year to prepare for the album and more than a month to record the 14 songs," said Lani, assisted by producer/arranger/songwriter Ito Rapadas who flew to Las Vegas purposely for the album. "We have to be careful even as we worked on borrowed time because I was then busy with my daily shows with the SOS at Flamingo."

Lani herself had a hand in choosing the songs, mostly covers: The Beatles' Here, There and Everywhere, Natalie Cole's Someone That I Used to Love, Deniece Williams' Healing, Sergio Mendes' Bridges, Janie Frickie's I Loved You All The Way, Oleta Adams' Get Here, Donna Summer's Whispering Waves, Elton John's Skyline Pigeon, America's Tin Man, a medley of Roberta Flack's Where Is The Love and Feel Like Making Love, Maureen McGovern's We Could Have It All, Iisa Pa Lamang (a bonus track) and Queen's Love Of My Life, the carrier single.

"We're staying for only three weeks," said Lani who's hoping to perform again in Las Vegas with the SOS sometime in October. Their shows at Flamingo lasted for one year and a half, drawing record crowds that included Celine Dion (who reportedly slipped incognito into Flamingo, maybe to see for herself Lani's much-touted impersonation of her and other foreign artists).

Last year when Funfare interview Lani in Las Vegas, she said that her family, who migrated in May 2004 holding an "extra-ordinary ability visa," has adjusted very well to the "maid-less" American lifestyle.

"We're okay in Las Vegas," said Lani who fulfills her dream of enjoying her family life combined with her career. "Our original plan was to migrate to Canada. But before our papers could be processed, I got the offer for the Las Vegas shows."

Away from work, Lani is an ordinary wife and mother just like everybody else.

"I like it that we do everything - wash the dishes, clean the house, do the marketing and cooking, everything! In the house where we used to stay, there was a grassy area and I did the lawn-mowing with a lawn-mower that was manual, huh, not power-operated."

But, sob and sigh, she said she rarely has time to watch shows of other artists, Filipino or foreign.

"But I watched a magic show here at Rio once. I've also watched the Celine Dion show. But being a homebody, I'd rather stay home and catch up with the chores and other errands."
