It looks like Box-Office King John Lloyd Cruz is bound to exceed his record-breaking glory in One More Chance (P152,791,025 in six weeks) as A Very Special Love hits the 100-million-peso mark last Friday, August 8. The country’s premiere actor himself was awestruck with the smashing success of his latest movie offering under Star Cinema, "This one I didn’t see coming. Sobrang…grabe. Sobra siyang surreal," gushed Lloydy during a recent one on one interview with ABS-CBN.com. He also expressed his happiness towards the fans’ overwhelming support for his first movie team-up with Sarah Geronimo, "Kasi sa panahon ngayon, mahirap magbayad ng P120 para sa isang pelikula na hindi mo nga alam kung magcli-click dahil, ‘Ano’ng foundation ng dalawang (him and Sarah) ‘yan?’ So surreal but beyond nice [ang feeling ko]."
Who wouldn’t be ecstatic when you see that the audiences are so into the film that they’re even singing and clapping in unison with its musical score? "I know! Malaking factor yung mga kantang nilagay, yung mga moments na inimbento ni Direk Cathy (Garcia-Molina), yung mga pakilig…’Di ba ang simple, ang luma, pero sobrang effective," Lloydy added. ABS-CBN.com also noted his ability to convey his emotions even without uttering a word. The talented actor humbly explained though that he had to suppress such transparency in some of the scenes. "Sa [opening] scene, yung naglalaro ako nung pen, yung kay Bernard Palanca, yung dapat wala makita [na expression sa mukha ko]. Sabi ni direk, "Alam mo problema mo ‘yan. It’s a good thing na expressive yung eyes mo pero may isang downside ‘yan. ‘Pag kailangang mong [maging] blanko mahihirapan ka.’" Nevertheless, John Lloyd managed to surpass such difficulties with flying colors.
No doubt about it, he and Sarah have risen above the challenge to make an ordinary "boy meets girl" love story into something that is still striking for avid moviegoers. But even with the undisputed success of A Very Special Love, John Lloyd is wary of doing another film with the young actress for fear that they wouldn’t meet the people’s expectations the second time around, "Ako personally, ayoko kami ni Sarah [ulit]. Mahirap…nakakatakot yun eh. Ano’ng pwede naming gawin, ‘di ba?" he concluded.
Catch A Very Special Love on its second box-office week in all theatres nationwide.
