Dingdong Dantes and Nikki Gil to host 3rd Moonrise Film Festival
Young stars Dingdong Dantes and Nikki Gil have been chosen to host the 3rd Moonrise Film Festival awards night on August 29, 2008 at the Robinson's Galleria Movieworld Cinema 3.
This was announced recently by Jukka Holopainen, organizer of the Center for Environmental Awareness and Education (CEAE), the same group that launched the environmental documentary film festival.
Dantes and Gil are among the very active and visible young image models of the conservation of the environment, an advocacy which needs to be reinforced, according to Dantes.
“I would love to see a planet which is damage-free so that the future generations of the world will benefit from our carefulness,” said Dantes, who hosted one of the major documentaries in exhibition at the film event.
The Charlie Award is the most coveted plum to be taken home by the best documentary.
Ten entries are vying for the top prize. Other awards at stake are Best Story, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and the People’s Choice Award.
According to Holopainen, the Moonrise Film Festival aims to underscore the objectives of CEAE in promoting the advancement of environmental causes.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes said Dantes and Gil are icons of environmental protection.
Reyes supports the aspirations of the Moonrise filmfest.
“I saw the real intentions of the filmmaker. They were all nature lovers,” observed Reyes.
He shared the meaning of the word “moonrise” in the creation of the festival.
“Matagal ko nang gustong malaman ang kung bakit ‘moonrise’ ang ginamit na salita do’n. ‘Yon pala, according to Jukka, nang i-conceptualize pala niya ang film festival, the moon was rising,” the secretary said.
Many stars are expected to grace the awards night while the showing of the ten outstanding films is ongoing at Robinson's Galleria.
