Alex Gonzaga’s ability to dazzle Filipino viewers with her natural gift of gab has certainly paid off this year. Indeed, her futile pursuit of Mr. Right and constant misadventures with her twin brother in My Girl has induced many people to laughter. She has also gained much attention in Your Song Presents: Without You featuring a bizarre love triangle. And now she’s all set to play John Prats’ leading lady in the next Komiks Presents: Mars Ravelo’s Tiny Tony series on ABS-CBN.
The young comedienne is ecstatic knowing that a new project is already lined up for her even before My Girl has ended. "Masaya siyempre dahil at least nabigyan ako ng projects at napansin din ako ng mga big boss. So sobrang thankful din dahil out of all the celebrities ‘di ba [sa akin ito ibinigay]," she gushes. Given her previous comical roles, however, it seems that she’s really fit for the character Michelle, a tactless girl who often puts Tiny Tony (John) into trouble. "Friends kami dito pero gusto namin yung isat-isa. Nung finally matutuloy na yung relationship namin, liliit na siya," Alex says.
Working on her onscreen chemistry with John will be pretty easy since they already knew each other way back when she’s not yet in showbiz. "Di ba naging close sila dati ng ate (Tony Gonzaga) ko? Madalas kaming magkasama dati," she explains. But Alex is quick to refute that a real-life romance is impossible to bloom between them, "Wala kaming love angle in real life kasi may magagalit," she said jokingly. She also recalls that they have bonded so much in the past because of her idol Heart Evangelista, John’s girlfriend at the time. "Kinukwentuhan niya ‘ko ng buhay niya dati kay Heart, charot! Kasi idol ko dati si Heart eh," she reveals. And now that she’ll see more of John again, they will surely talk about a different girl altogether.
As for her part, she won’t feel left out in the love department when catching up with her friend John as she admits the real score between her and her non-showbiz suitor. "Two years na siyang nanliligaw. [Although] may mga pahaging na rin ako sa kanya. Parang best friends kami, na alam namin, pero naghihintay na lang kami ng tamang oras," she reveals.
Actually, the truth is, the 20-year-old actress is still waiting for her mom to approve of her getting into a serious commitment. "One time nga pumunta yun sa bahay, biglang pinaalis eh. Nasa kalagitnaan palang kami ng pelikula, ‘Facing The Giants, film na pang-gospel. Pero na-oust pa rin siya," she hilariously confides to ABS-CBN.com. But she understands where her mom is coming from since she’s still finishing her college education. "Naiintindihan rin naman niya (her suitor) so walang problema. Hintay lang talaga," she stresses.
