My Girl battles the rains in Baguio

By Napoleon Quintos

No time for vacation for the My Girl production in Baguio as frequent afternoon rains messed up their taping schedule. But Direk Jerome Chavez Pobocan and the entire team remained determined to shoot all the necessary scenes in their three-day stay in the renowned tourist destination. On Wednesday, the first day of taping alone stretched up to the late evening. The crew also had a difficult time setting up all the equipment in the busy and crowded Session Road.Locals and tourists alike could not help but peep at the monitors to see Enchong Dee, who apparently was very popular to My Girl fans in Baguio.

The bright sun shone Thursday morning, and everyone took advantage of the clear sky to finish a scene in MinesViewPark. The scene involved Alex Gonzaga and David Chua to do a traditional dance with some Igorots. In between takes, the crowd watching the shoot would cheer as Alex showed off her best dance moves. However, Direk Jerome had a problem clearing people from the set because of the narrow pathways in Mines View and the high cliffs at the side.

The production immediately moved to the BurnhamPark, but unfortunately, rain began to fall again a little past noon. After taping a scene with Alex, David, and Malou Crisologo trying out the rented boats on the lagoon, the cast and crew took shelter in their respective tents. The rain went on until five in the afternoon but as soon as the sky cleared, the crew hurriedly put up the lights and cameras. While waiting for Direk Jerome’s call, Alex and Tita Malou ate isaw bought by the staff from a nearby barbeque place.

The crowd began to thicken around the production area, and many teenage girls still in their school uniforms cheered when David accommodated them for pictures and autographs. But the noise grew wilder when Gerald Anderson arrived from his break at the CafĂ© by the Ruins. The 19-year-old ‘crush ng bayan’ was also kind enough to sign notebooks and P.E. school shirts from young fans.

On the afternoon of Friday, the production team had an easy time setting up inside the covered Victory Liner bus terminal. But again, controlling the crowd became a challenge especially when Gerald came out with ka-love team Kim Chiu. The charm of their tandem made the people in the terminal very excited.Everyone was just dying to be hired as an extra in the scene where Kim and Gerald’s character would cross paths in a peculiar way.
