LT on ABS-CBN soon; classic Daboy films to be aired
Actress Lorna Tolentino, wife of the late actor Rudy "Daboy" Fernandez, will soon be part of ABS-CBN's Team Kapamilya.
According to a report reaching abs-cbnNEWS.com, Lorna's television guesting last Sunday, July 13 at "ASAP '08" sets in motion a plan for her to transfer to ABS-CBN.
The report also said that Lorna will be doing a drama series and will host a talk show program.
Her last show with the Kapamilya network was "Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay" in 2001 with actor John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.
Last Sunday, Lorna joined the ASAP '08 family as they launched "Da Boy" -- the Rudy Fernandez movie collection.
Before Daboy died last June 7, Saturday due to periampullary cancer, he made sure that his legacy will continue. That's why on December 18, 2007 he bequeathed the rights to his films to ABS-CBN to ensure that later generations would be able to watch his films.
Daboy was able to sign a contract with ABS-CBN, giving the network the rights to air his films here in abroad.
Daboy was accompanied by Lorna at the signing which was witnessed by ABS-CBN executives, including the network's president Charo Santos-Concio.
Waway, Quintero and Baby Ama were some of the remarkable characters brought to life by "Philippine Cinema’s Action Prince" Rudy Fernandez which will again be seen starting July 18 as his collection of top caliber films air once more on “Da Boy sa ABS-CBN.“
“Da Boy has always loved his craft, he was committed to it and he was very proud of all his works. This is why we are very glad that the people will again see his movies which became the reason why he was loved and admired for so long in the industry,” said Lorna.
Daboy entrusted his films to ABS-CBN since he believes that the network will have a good job of sustaining his legacy and promoting his films to his fans.
He made his debut film “Luksang Tagumpay” (1956) at the age of 3 , which was directed by his father Gregorio Fernandez.
He then made his breakthrough as an action star in the movie "Bitayin Si Baby Ama" in 1976. His last film “Hula Mo, Huli Ko” starred him with Rufa Mae Quinto in 2002.
This coming Friday, July 18, “Da Boy sa ABS-CBN” kicks off with “Batuigas 2: Pasukuin si Waway” starring Daboy together with Sandy Andolong, Jay Ilagan , Rowell Santiago, Dang Cecilio and Ricky Davao.
The said movie is very dear to "Daboy" as it earned him three Best Actor awards from FAMAS, STAR and FAP.
