Kim Chiu rocks the University of Baguio

Interview by Napoleon Quintos

There’s no doubt that Kim Chiu is one of the most adored teen idols in showbiz today. When the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Big Winner was in Baguio recently to shoot scenes for My Girl, crowds of fans—and ABS-CBN.com—followed the cast and crew from location to location.

One scene was shot last Friday afternoon, July 11, at the University of Baguio. Teachers and students immediately came out of the classrooms to gather around the set and get a glimpse of the chinita beauty. They took out their cellphone cameras to snap photos of Kim as she rehearsed her scenes. Some of the students were even hired as extras to play Kim’s admirers.

Controlling the crowd proved to be a hard task for the crew and campus security. Direk Jerome Pobocan did several retakes to just to perfect the blocking of scenes. The campus security had a hard time clearing students out of camera range from hallways and classroom windows.

Only a few fans had a chance to have a picture taken with Kim since she had to leave for another location. A couple of students approached the production staff to get details about the shoot for an article in the school publication.

While it was a tiring shoot, Kim doesn’t mind the long hours she had to put in. In fact, the 18-year-old Cebuana is thankful for all the blessings she has received since her PBB days. "Maraming changes, halos lahat sa buhay ko nagbago. Pero masaya naman kasi maaga akong nabigyan ng blessing. Yung pagiging artista masaya ako dito," Kim told ABS-CBN.com.

She also feels fortunate that her pairing with Gerald Anderson continues to charm Kapamilyas here and abroad. "Masaya na pinapanood pa rin nila kami, na hindi pa rin sila nagsasawa sa love team namin." But when asked on how she feels about being placed on the same level as Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis, Angel Locsin, and KC Concepcion as the next leading ladies of ABS-CBN, Kim turned shy about being compared with the other actresses. "Naku hindi ko pa iniisip yang mga bagay na yan baka hindi magkatotoo (laughs). Although I’m hoping, lahat naman ng artista nangangarap na magtagal sa industriya."
