Good thing Sarah Geronimo didn't remake 'Dear Heart'

IT'S JUST as well that Sarah Geronimo didn't get to remake 'Dear Heart,' the 1980 movie that made overnight stars out of Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion. Some time back, Sarah's managers had planned to cast her in a revival of 'Dear Heart,' a move that didn't please Sharon, and which probably caused the project's cancellation.

Sarah landed on what appears to be a better project, 'A Very Special Love,' a romantic comedy that's more attuned to present-day sensibilities. In it, she teams up with hot scree idol, John Lloyd Cruz, fresh from the monster hit, 'One More Chance.'

Based on audience feedback to its trailer and the out-of-town sojourns by both John Lloyd and Sarah, the film is being met with overwhelming enthusiasm everywhere. JL and Sarah play boss and employee in the comedy-drama that poses a supreme test to Sarah's bankability as a leading lady.

If 'A Very Special Love' makes it, Sarah can rest assured she can truly make it on her own merits. What should make her feel doubly glad is that she did it her way without having to imitate another actress. This way, she can also claim she has originated a film of her own.

By the way, 'A Very Special Love' is directed by that very exciting new director, Cathy Garcia Molina, for both Star Cinema and Viva Films.
